The COMPASS experiment makes use of the CERN SPS high-intensitymuon and hadron beams for the investigation of the nucleon spin structure and the spectroscopy of hadrons. One or more outgoing particles are detected in coincidence with the incoming muon or hadron. A large polarized target inside a superconducting solenoid is used for the measurements with the muon beam. Outgoing particles are detected by a two-stage, large angle and large momentum range spectrometer. The setup is built using several types of tracking detectors, according to the expected incident rate, required space resolution and the solid angle to be covered. The Mandatory Nature of the Right of Withdrawal

One of the main features of the CESL—unlike other international instruments—concerns its optional nature, i.e. the parties must agree upon its application in order for this instrument to govern the particular contract. However, once the parties have agreed upon its application, certain aspects of this instrument have a mandatory nature where the relevant contract is concluded between a consumer and a trader, one of these being the right of withdrawal. The aim of this chapter is to consider the regulation of this right of consumers in the Proposal on a CESL and in certain other instruments devoted to the harmonisation of contractual obligations in Europe.

During wine ageing, oxidation reactions occur and can lead to wine sensory defaults. The main factors involved in this phenomenon are oxygen and gas barrier properties of stoppers. During the last ten years, some studies investigated oxygen transfer during winemaking and wine storage. However, only few of them deal with the interactions between molecules and sealing materials. The material studied in this work is raw cork, without any treatment, neither washed nor surface treated (with paraffin or silicone). Porównanie postaw i poglądów przedstawicieli władz miejskich w Ołomuńcu i Opolu

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badania postaw oraz opinii przedstawicieli samorządów, które przeprowadzono w kadencji 2010–2014 w Opolu oraz Ołomuńcu. Badania miały na celu porównanie poglądów i postaw radnych wobec wybranych narzędzi związanych z partycypacją i demokratycznym sposobem sprawowania władzy na poziomie lokalnym. Badania wykazały, że poglądy i postawy polityków na wybieralnych stanowiskach najbardziej różnią się w tych kwestiach, w których polscy i czescy samorządowcy mają osobiste doświadczenie (np. referendum, budżet obywatelski).

Abstract A single, atypical conchorhynch (calcitic tip of a cephalopod lower jaw), recovered from the uppermost Meerssen Member (Maastricht Formation, upper Maastrichtian) at the former ENCI-HeidelbergCement Group quarry, south of Maastricht, is described as a new parataxon, Conchorhynchus illustris sp. nov. The specimen can be differentiated from all previous conchorhynch records on account of its large size, elongated shape and, in particular, of the structure of its apical part which is smooth and forwardly elongated. During the Late Cretaceous, conchorhynchs formed part of the jaw apparatus of nautilids and of two ammonoid suborders, Phylloceratina and Lytoceratina. Since conchorhynchs …

Sudden death in water: Diagnostic challenges

Abstract The authors report a case of sudden death in a breath-holding diver and highlight the forensic diagnostic difficulties in opining the cause of sudden death in water. The autopsy showed increased thickness of the left ventricular wall with a distinct pattern of concentric hypertrophy, evident particularly in the subaortic interventricular septum. Histological examination revealed diffuse interstitial fibrosis and associated findings of multifocal myocyte disarray especially evident in the subaortic interventricular septum.
